I was so incredibly lucky to be able to receive an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review so this review is for the ARC (the final published edition might vary a little) but man was I lucky. This has became easily one of my favorite books I've read this year. The story is so powerful and moving. The book follows a girl named Cilka through her experiences in a Siberian prison camp which she gets sent to after surviving Auschwitz. She was charged as a collaborator for sleeping with the enemy even though it was a choice of life or death. I quickly became so attached to Cilka and following her inspiring story the whole way through the book. I felt like it was written beautifully considering the content that was covered. This is definitely not a book every single person would enjoy, there are quite a few content warnings particularly for rape and abuse that can be difficult to read but the author does a great job of covering those aspects carefully.

Although this is labeled as the sequel to the Tattooist of Auschwitz on goodreads, it is more of a sister novel. I haven't read the Tattooist of Auschwitz yet and didn't have any difficulty reading this. There are some parts that probably would be a little more meaningful had I read it, but I don't feel like I missed out and look forward to picking up that book now that I know this one is so good!
