This novel is the sequel to The Tattooist of Auschwitz. It follows the story of Cilka. Cilka was a prisoner of Auschwitz. She was sent there at the age of 16 and survived by becoming the mistress of Nazi officers. She had no choice. It was rape but the Russians did not see it that way when the camp was liberated. She was sent to a labor camp in Siberia. The fact that this really happened was unthinkable to me. Even worse was what she had to endure there after having survived Auschwitz.
I ultimately liked this novel more than The Tattooist of Auschwitz. Cilka was an amazing woman and the fact that she survived both places is a miracle. This book was very moving and opened my eyes to a place that was just as bad as any Nazi concentration camp. This book was very moving and the fact that it is based on true historical fact blows me away.
