I had read Tattooist of Auschwitz and I thought Cilka was a really interesting side character and I was excited to read about her own story. She's so dynamic and dimensional as a character and I found her story incredibly devastating, but also motivating and I was on the edge of my seat rooting for her. The way Morris tackled the aftermath of the Holocaust setting was truly magnificent. I thought Cilka would have been freed right away, but unfortunately it wasn't the case. The story flowed so brilliantly and I thought of Cilka as a mother figure throughout the entire book. I also enjoyed the stories of the other characters including the other women Cilka lived with and worked with while she was held there. I think her story was an important one to tell and the writing was simple yet quite evocative at the same time. I love historical fiction and I think Morris really succeeded in her storytelling.
