Having recently read The Tattooist of Auschwitz and loved it, I was very happy to see another book by Heather Morris ready for publication. I remember Cilka from the first book and I am happy to see her as the main character in Cilka’s Journey. Being beautiful, inside and out most likely saved Cilka and her sister’s life in the camp but at a terrible price. Cilka had only two choices. She could agree to become the Nazi official’s mistress or refuse and be shot. She chose life and was allowed to eat and to keep her sister alive too. What is even more horrible is that upon camp liberation, she was accused as a Nazi collaborator and sent to Siberia for punishment. I am already totally engrossed in Cilka’s Journey and I love the cover. It is exactly how I would picture Cilka in my mind.
