This story begins in the current day. It’s Hazel’s 81st birthday. I liked Hazel immediately, she’s fun, feisty and intelligent. She’s had a newspaper column since the sixties.
A few pages after we meet Hazel, we find out she’s now in the hospital and it doesn’t look good. My thought was, “oh no! I already liked Hazel”.
In this excerpt we don’t yet know what will happen to Hazel. The people at the newspaper decide to honor Hazel by running her old columns. They also include old readers’ responses to Hazel’s column.
I’m not sure what to expect this book to be about. Is it all going to be Hazel’s old columns?
