The vivid cover of Chaos & Flame is sure to catch any reader's eye, and for anyone who enjoys imaginary worlds with dragon families and Sphinx families and battles between good and evil, this book is sure to please. There are hints of evil in the very first sentence when a six-year-old dragon son in a powerful family draws a picture of an eyeless girl; immediately, his mother realizes with horror that the young scion has special powers which will not be welcomed. This is of high importance since the son is line to take over for his father -the Dragon Regent- one day in the future. When Father is irritated by his son's fixation on drawing the same eyeless girl over and over again, the mother assures him he will grow out of this imaginary friendship. Despite Mother doing her best to protect her son for two years, she is unable to protect herself and prevent her own murder. All of this in just two and a half pages! After 100 years, the country is again in all-out war as every house is must choose a side: Dragon or Sphinx. And even the peace-keeping House of Phoenix is not immune this time.
