First off, I have to say this cover is absolutely STUNNING. I keep seeing photos of it with fall decor and it is absolute perfection. Unfortunately, the book just didn't hold up for me.
As a kid, I loved the Shadow Hunter series. Since then, I've read most of Cassandra Clare's books. I don't think I'll ever feel the same about her series as when I was a kid. Of course, I'm no longer in the target demographic, so that totally makes sense! I'm sure the intended audience would enjoy it more than me.
Regardless, I still feel like each book gets a little less interesting. The universe is so fleshed out at this point, nothing really feels new. It reminds me of watching a TV show that got one too many seasons.
There are some "nostalgia reads" I still enjoy as an adult. I still read a lot of young adult novels and enjoy them, but this one just wasn't for me.
