Chain of Gold is a brand new YA triology in Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunters series. I have read Cassandra Clare’s books before and enjoyed them greatly, so I had a certain expectation level when going into this book. Firstly, I loved the characters of Cordelia, Lucie, James, Matthew, and the Lightwoods. For those who have read The Infernal Devices prior to this (which I highly recommend) it was a delight to see Will, Tessa, and Jem again! However one thing I wish could appear more in the second book is Tessa’s activeness in her children’s lives, I didn’t see her character present as much as I would’ve liked. The plot itself was an enjoyable read, and I didn’t find it too slow or fast paced. I found the relationship between Cordelia and Lucie refreshing and am looking forward to seeing them as parabatai. James and Matthew also shared a strong bond, and it was nice to read about this group as a whole with their strengths as well as flaws. The character of Grace Blackthorne was an interesting introduction and the whole Blackthorne/Lightwood family drama was compelling.

The writing style wasn’t too wordy and I feel it was a perfect introduction to this new triology. There were plot twists in this novel that made it more enjoyable to read and it was written in a way that made it hard to put down!
