I was reluctant to choose this book because I’m fairly picky about my murder mysteries but then I saw it was endorsed by William Kent Krueger, one of my favorite writers so I jumped right in. I finished it in one sitting and not just because it’s a relatively short book. It kept me wanting more. It’s not just a murder mystery. It’s also about love and the lengths we will go for someone we love, especially a parent. It’s also about new love and how that love can embolden us, strengthen us, and support us through many things, even doubt in ourselves. I wasn’t so much surprised at the ending but relieved because I realized through much of the book I’d been holding my breath and I could let go. I felt the pain of a good man who’d made a terrible mistake and the release of that pain to live the rest of his life in peace. This story will stay with me. Now to go and discover more of Matt Goldman’s books!
