I truly enjoyed this book. I grew up in a very small town where everyone knows your whole life story and hurts from the past never go away because you're reminded of them every time you turn the corner. We see that in this story with characters who were deeply hurt many years ago and the impact those actions still have on them today.
I like how the author intertwines the past and the present along with tragedies and love. There is a lifetime of history with these characters but we see that history from each of their perspectives and they don't completely match. We find that some secrets are best kept hidden and adult children don't know their parents as well as they think that they do. We might not know our spouses as well as we think that we do. There are a few parts of this story that I just couldn't get into (ie: the experiment) but it was easy to overlook those in favor of the overall story and the ride that it takes you on.
