This book is about Joey Green who returns to his parent's home of Beaufort, South Carolina to help take care of and visit his father who is struggling with his short term memory loss. The story unfolds with a murder in the town and Joey's father, Marshall is the key to unlocking old memories and new revelations. This was such an exciting story to read, and I loved the back and forth pull of the past stories that helps to put the pieces of the mystery together. It had such a strong note of family running through every page, Marshall was such an easy character to really care about. I also loved how the cover art worked directly into the story, further pushing the point of how powerful memory and the bonds of family/friendship were to this story. I think my only complaint about the book was that we didn't get to see the relationship Joey has with his kids. I would have loved if the author had written about how Joey brought his son with him on his trip to bond and make memories with him instead of the sections of his love interest Leela. I felt like the love interest parts felt a bit disconnected from the rest of the story. Overall, I thought this was a great book and one that I would recommend!
