Atmospheric Southern Mystery That Explores Past & Present
I am loving southern fiction these days. I saw this book on Bookish First & the eerie cover & the quote from William Kent Krueger, one of my favorite authors, sealed the deal. I was fortunate to win an ARC of the book.
The story follows Joey Green, who has returned to South Carolina to check up on his father, who is suffering from Lewy body dementia. During the course of his visit, the murder of a prominent town businessman occurs, & Joey becomes concerned that his father may have something to do with it. In the course of untangling that mystery, we find out about two other murders that occurred many years ago. Joey's father's memory issues do not affect long term memory & he begins to reveal to Joey some of his unusual past.
The book is a nice combination of exploring the issues of aging parents and dementia, a sweet middle aged romance, & the combining of past & present mysteries. I really enjoyed it.
