Carolina Moonset is the story of a family with secrets and how past memories can surface to change the present. Joey Green and his sisters have a plan to help their mother care for their father, Marshall. Living with Lewy Body Dementia, Marshall cannot retain short term memories, but has perfect recall of the past. As it has been months since his last visit, Joey is shocked as to the progression of his father's disease. When he convinces his mom to take an opportunity to get away, Joey is certain that his help will be enough. Not everything goes according to plan, and Joey has to navigate uncharted waters. This is a story about family secrets and the lengths that a son will go to help his father. The introduction of a budding relationship flows well and I like the banter between the characters. Although some of the secrets are not really a surprise, the story is put together in a meaningful way. Overall, Carolina Moonset is a gem that I would recommend to others.
