While I am new to Matt Goldman's writing, I was initially intrigued by the blurb from William Kent Krueger on the cover.

And then this sentence popped out to me on the very first page: "That's when I learned I could not trust family." The story starts with Joey visiting his childhood home in South Carolina and discussing his father's dementia and how it's affecting his mother and their family.

The foreshadowing for an eventful father-son bonding time is prominent in the first couple of chapters, as Joey insists that his mother take some time away to rest and have fun. Plus the nagging feeling pulsing through Joey's veins about his father's missing revolver is bound to come back later in the novel.

Excited to keep reading!
