Reading through this sample, I was struck by the portrayal of the main character's father and his struggle with dementia. My grandfather suffered from dementia through his later years in life, with some very similar symptoms. He could not remember the present as well as the past and had found ways to obfuscate his memory loss.
Despite this, family-based thriller and suspense novels are not my favorite kind of reading. Although I've had some personal experiences related to the book's content, I just don't think I am the target audience of this story. I think if I was a bit older (i.e., had a spouse or parent who has suffered from dementia) or if I was someone who generally preferred these kinds of stories, the book would be a good read.
