You can already see the writing on the wall with this book. I got about 100 pages in and had to dnf it. The male MC is trying to make the best of everything, so far to save face, while the female MC knows they should just go back home.
Maybe trying this like a year or 2 from now would have been better. But he is persistent. Apparently he will greatly disappoint BOTH of their mothers by cutting the honeymoon short. They are young newlyweds with their entire lives ahead of them. Things were not going great from visiting a town Effie remembered being so lively, only to visit when it's vacant.
There's a glimmer of hope when they spot a car down the road. Henry convinces Effie this is a sign to stay and soon they go to introduce themselves. Only to find out the car belonged to a girl Effie knew growing up, did not get along with her, and is now invited to their latest function.
