Cape May is a beautiful beach town and I was excited to read a book based there.
The book, itself, starts off with a bang. Effie and Henry are a young couple from small town Georgia who come to Cape May for their honeymoon - a nostalgic (and free) trip back to a place where Effie has fond memories. They’re only 18 and 20, which could have been common at the time and place, but as the story unfolds, they seem much older than their years.
They start out as virgins...but then spend (especially one of them) much of the book in all kinds of sexual escapades. If that’s not something you want to read about, then this is not the book for you.
I liked reading about Cape May and the initial chapters about Effie and Henry, but was not a fan of the rest of the book. Among other challenges for me were Effie and Henry’s behavior, given their ages and backgrounds, and I couldn’t figure out the motivations of Clara and Max (what was the attraction to Effie and Henry?).
