Lost its potential

I read half of this book, prior to being introduced to Bookish. This book had SUCH potential. A sweet Southern couple, on their honeymoon, in the wife's favorite vacation spot. They have the lovely coastal town to themselves, and it's charming and New England-ish and adorable. And then, introduce the party-animal neighbors. And the sex. And the affairs. And the excessive partying. And the graphic descriptions of sex. And the novel just turned downhill for me.

I understand the protagonist and his inner mind workings as he is exposed to "the real world," but I just thought the book was ruined by the sex and the affairs and the YUCK. This book does personify so much of what is wrong in this world, of why there are so many affairs and divorces and broken families. I just wish the author had taken a different path and continued discussing the cute newlyweds and their honeymoon, prior to the sketch happening later in the book.
