Set in the little town of Cape May, New Jersey in 1956, a newlywed couple, Henry and Effie, from Georgia, come to honeymoon not realizing it's the "off season". I grew up in New Jersey so I am familiar with the town and what "off season" really means. The town is practically dead, no one vacationing in September (NJ summer "unofficially" ends on Labor Day). They are staying in her Uncle's rental and haven't seen many people around town. Then halfway through their trip a house up the street has cars out front. Henry wants to say hello and be friendly, but Effie seems rather down about it. The end of chapter one really makes you want to see what is really going on inside the mind of his new wife.
