There's something about a deserted beach and a seemingly abandoned town that calls to me. so much, or so little can happen. The cover conveys, to me, the 1920s...it has that look. It's appropriate that this story has that look, although the novel is set in 1957, considering the outlandish behaviors that Henry and Effie and going to witness, and it seems, participate in. The first sentence had me hooked. I remember being on Cape Cod in late September one year and how isolated and free I felt. Without the constrictions of other people's perspectives, freedom, even a tad, can be quite dangerous. How the attitudes and morals of the people Henry and Effie meet have me quite intrigued as this barely-legal couple cope and react.
