I was looking forward to reading this book, in large part because it's set in New Orleans and Virginia, two places I have lived and spent a lot of time in. Unfortunately, this was not the book for me.

Everything seems to come too easy for Mungo St John, even when the things he's dealing with are catastrophes, like losing the family plantation. I think we're supposed to think of him as a James Bond type, but I couldn't get past the slave owning. Also, the love of his life, Camilla - I did like reading her perspective, but I found it hard to believe that they were actually in love, given the whole owner/slave thing going on.

That said, the book is well written, and if you like adventure stories, it may appeal.
