Enjoyed it, even though I haven't read the series.

**Thank you to Bookish First for the ARC of Call of the Raven in exchange for an honest review!**

Call of the Raven is a prequel to Wilbur Smith's Ballantyne series (a series of currently 6 books). I have not read the series prior to this, thankfully in this instance I didn't find that to be all that important. I was still able to understand the story and follow it regardless - do not get me wrong, I assume if I knew the characters more I would have enjoyed it more than I did. *Since that is something of my own fault and not the authors, I will not consider it for this review*

Mungo St. John is the anti-hero or "villain" of the story if you take it that far. He is apparently the character people love to hate - so I thought I would love him, because I always love those characters... but for some reason not in this instance?

The ending was definitely interesting and I did not see it coming at all, it took me by surprise! Overall, I would consider this to be a compelling and fun read even having not read the Ballantyne series!
