Ok so I went into this one without any previous knowledge of the series. As a kid I read River God and absolutely loved it, and his writing style.

I continued to still love his writing style into this book. Honestly, there is a lot of cases study that goes on in the story. That's alright with me though, there is plenty of action to balance it out!

The setting takes place in the time shortly after slavery was abolished. There is a a ton of illegally slave trading going on during this time. This is one of my favorite times in American history to read about, and I'm sure that's what kept me turning the pages!

The characters are so we'll developed, and I just love a good character driven plot line. I will for sure be checking out the rest of this series in the near future.
