I was excited to get an ARC of this book. I love Persuasion, I love books, I love books about writers and books. This seemed squarely in my wheelhouse. The excerpt I read on the Bookishfirst site was very promising. I have to say that this book is just ok. Perhaps it's unfair to criticize it for being predictable seeing as how it's a retelling but man was it ever predictable. And I don't just mean the ending. It struck me as being a mashup of Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice. I have issues with the main character acting in what I perceive to be a completely irrational way which this character does more than once. Having said all this though,it's a perfectly serviceable way to spend a few hours.
