By the Book is a modern retelling of Jane Austen's Persuasion. Anne Corey is an English professor at Fairfax College. She is trying to get her book published so that she can stay on the tenure track. Her former fiance, Adam Martinez, enters the picture as the college's new president. At the same time, Richard Chasen, a very successful author, arrives at the university and Anne is immediately attracted to him.
This book has all my favorites; lots of book references, professors, and romance. It is just a lot of fun to read. One of my favorite characters was Larry, Anne's best friend and colleague at the college. I love their relationship and the constant banter between the two of them. This will go on my shelf with my other "bookish" favorites.
