By the time I got to the end of the excerpt of "By the Book," I was terribly disappointed that I couldn't read further. Already, in the first 35 pages, I was invested in the characters, desperate to know if Anne and Adam get back together. The plot zipped along and the dialogue was witty. I work on a college campus and the description of the atmosphere was quite familiar. I think I might have to pick this one up. I have to know if Anne gets tenure, if she publishes her book, what happened between her and Adam, if they can find their way back to each other, and, of course, I want more Jellyby the cat. If you're a fan of romance, or a fan of Jane Austen, this one is probably for you. I enjoy the modern retellings of Austen classics and this one seems to be a winner.
