I was honestly so surprised this was a retelling! While I knew it was a retelling of Jane Austen's Persuasion, I couldn't tell the whole time I was reading. I was never a big fan of Jane Austen, premises being interesting, but the writing ran me off. This is a great retelling in my book.
The writing is great, and Anne is one character that a lot of women (or readers in general) can relate to. You root for her from the beginning, and that support does not falter. I also am a great big fan of stories where the main couple has been together once before, many years ago, and then reunites. It makes for such a fantastic read, and this time was no different.
I am not big into love stories - I'm more of the scandalous affairs and murder type stories - but this one made me be a romantic, if only for a little while.
