I am not a fan of Jane Austen’s work, so I’ve never read Persuasion. So why did I choose this book to review? For a start, the cover really stood out and captured my attention. I love the colors and composition, and BOOKS!

I thought the first chapters on offer had sharp, witty dialogue and moved at a good pace. However, I didn’t believe in the main characters, but mostly just not in Anne. She seemed so immature - hard to believe she was a professor seeking tenure. Obviously, since I don’t know the source piece, I can’t comment on the parallels to Persuasion and maybe they show up later. But I’m afraid that “later” in this case feels like a middling romance that I’m not interested enough to invest in.
