Would work better as a TV show than a book
Well, that was a disappointing foray into this genre. I’m just assuming the genre is crime drama. I’ve never read a book in this genre, so I was excited to read it. The beginning was good and I was interested to know how they’d solve the murder and find whodunit.
One thing that threw me off was that every so often we’d get a chapter that was a flashback detailing the story and facts about the robberies and murder. So while I as the reader knew what was going on, the characters didn’t. I just felt this left no room for me to be surprised or intrigued at finding out or even figuring out on my own what happened. Because I didn’t have time to do that before it was told to me.
Maybe that type of storytelling would work better for a tv show. I’m pretty sure the author (who is a producer of crime tv shows) is writing the script for this book adaption. I’d be interested in seeing the show, because I think I’d be able to follow the story and relationships better, and I just think it would make a better show than book.
The author added so many little sexual innuendos or comments that were unnecessary and added absolutely nothing to the plot. Why did we need to know that a couple on a bus we’re doing something? It’s like the author just wanted as much sexual content as she could get away with, since this isn’t even a romance novel, and it’s focus is solving a murder.
The ending was really disappointing. It was unresolved and left Jack looking like like not such a good person.
There was one scene/joke that was really funny involving a burned body and a detached foot. Those autopsy people sometimes just have such a wry funny sense of humor in crime shows/books.
