When I originally read the blurb for the book I knew nothing about the author and had read none of her previous works. I had thought that it sounded clique. However, the execution is what matters in this and it was executed very well. The plot was engaging and I pushed the limits of when I should be sleeping in order to find out what was going to happen next. The true test of a mystery is whether it keeps you guessing, and this novel definitely does that. It was very obvious that la Planta is familiar with the genre and truly excels at writing in it. As for the characters, a sign of a good author is how you end up feeling about a character. Be it a character you should dislike, but simply can’t or vice versa. La Planta is definitely a good author by this standard.
