Lynda La Plante has been on Bookish First a few times with books from her Dolly Rawlins series. I had thought that this was a new and unrelated series, but the prologue describes Dolly entering the same scene that had been at the beginning of "She's Out." I'm curious about how Dolly is involved in this new series.

A lot of characters are introduced at the beginning, so there are a lot of people to keep track of, but La Plante does a good job of making each character memorable and distinct. Toward the end of the sample is when we meet Jack and Maggie, who have a sweet relationship together. Jack is someone that new adult readers will identify with as he is still struggling to figure out his calling in life at the age of 36.

Because this new DC Jack Warr series is clearly related to the Dolly Rawlins series, I would be compelled to read the Dolly Rawlins books first, though I am sure this new series will function well enough on its own. I personally just like to read things in order!
