The author's note at the beginning warns the reader of a tough read ahead. And we certainly get a glimpse of the weighty topics that face Minah in the chapters ahead - family bonds, loss, changing relationships, transitions to adulthood, etc., all in the backdrop of a rich and vibrant NYC neighborhood. I can imagine getting drawn into this story as an audiobook as the voices are clear and distinct. As a reader, I wasn't pulled into the story as quickly as others though I can understand why it will resonate deeply with others.
