Solid Collection of Short Stories
Body Language is an interesting and compelling collection of twelve short stories, all intermingled with themes of loss and desire. They cover a variety of experiences and center around realistic characters who deliver unfiltered snapshots of what it means to be human--to forgive, yearn, forget, reflect, and live. Each story is grounded in the ordinary, the mundane. Normally I don't enjoy short stories because they either read as too experimental or they feel boring, meandering, pointless. Body Language managed to mostly avoid these pitfalls. While some stories did sag a bit and draw on longer than I found necessary, it was still an overall engaging collection. Each story has a presence and all of the characters have a voice that is raw and their own. While it may not have been filling to the brim with action, this collection had a quiet, simple beauty about it.
