I have always been a fan of short stories and short story collections, so I was excited to have received a copy of this book from the raffle. Body Language is a collection of twelve short stories, each of which offers a portrait of a character's journey through life, complete with life's hardships, joys, and self-discoveries. I found myself drawn into the world already by the first few pages of the first story, which is about a man and his lost love. I was invested in the character's thoughts and emotions, and I found Marylee MacDonald's writing extremely vulnerable and human. The stories cover a wide range of people, from a daughter and her misunderstanding with her father to a sales rep on an international flight. Overall, I enjoyed Body Language and would recommend it for when you are craving a book with a variety of characters and backstories and writing filled with heart.
