The Walt Whitman quotation and the author’s brief introduction made me very interested in this book of short stories about characters whose actions stem from sensory impulses. Each story in the preview pages had a different setting, so there could be something for everyone in this book. However, something seem to just not ring true for me. Examples include (1) A high school crush appears out of nowhere decades later and wants immediate intimacy with you with absolutely no prelude. (2) Airline crew members don’t know to offer an entree choice to the full fare passenger before the last minute upgraded passenger. I wish I’d found the scenarios more believable and enticing.
