Tough but not bad.
This was my first introduction to Lynda La Plante and I've always loved thrillers and mysteries. This book took a long time to finish - it just didn't grab me and keep me engaged. Apart from the murder, there wasn't enough drama, enough "beef" to keep me satiated.
While the characters were enjoyable I felt that things progressed slowly and that there were side stories that felt more like a distraction than actually pertaining to the main storyline, example I didn't need to hear about all the trips to the canteen and what the cops ate. Several chapters could have been tightened up - it felt like we waited so long for the story to unravel and then it just ended, rather abruptly. I do look forward to checking out the other Tennison books in the series. I've heard wonderful things, that her writing can be magical, and I'm hoping this one was just a fluke - all authors have them.
