This was a relatable and believable story awarded to me by BookishFirst. I did like the main characters Jane and Spencer. They seemed to like each other as really good friends but because Spencer is married there wasn't any "hanky panky". The novel was set in the late 1970's which gave it a retro feel because they were still using typewriters. However, the plot just stumbled along with too many interviews, in order to determine who the killer was. There was lots of bad language, no real excitement, a ridiculous number of extraneous teas and breakfasts, a disjointed undercover operation. by Jane that incidentally really happened in the time frame mentioned. The ending was terribly disappointing and it left me wondering about a missing young girl. That may be due to the fact that this is a continuing series with Jane.
