In Blunt Force, the sixth in the Jane Tennison series, Jane has been booted from the squad and has been assigned to the Knightsbridge district, a quiet area that’s a big step down from that of the Flying Squad. When the murder of a high-ranking entertainment executive occurs, she’s back in it again and she and DS Gibbs must enter the world of show biz to decipher what happened to the victim, so brutally murdered.

Although Blunt Force was a bit slower to get in to, the complexity of the plot made it well worth it. There are plenty of red-herrings, plot twists and an abundance of clues that show up just in time to steer both the reader and the characters off in another direction. As always, the characters are well-fleshed, flawed, and perfectly emotive; this is a big part of why LaPlante’s books are so compelling to me. This is a solid police procedural with a sub-plot cleverly interwoven that made it that much more interesting.

I’m looking forward to the Jane Tennison book!
