Now, I haven’t read any other Jane Tennison books before, so I have no history with the series. Initially, I was unsure about reading this book out of order, but it looked so good I just had to dive right in!

First off, although I’m sure I was missing a lot of the background and slow character building that takes place in a series, I could catch enough of it to infer what had gone on in past books (but without giving too much away in case I want to go back and read them!). And I think I will!

This is a fairly good police procedural, and although there isn’t much “action” to speak of, it definitely goes through the steps to solve the heinous crime that was committed. I see it as “British” style— think Masterpiece Mystery on PBS.

Overall, I found it entertaining. The negatives for me were that it was a little slow in some parts and the ending was a little anti climatic for me. It was not a disappointing ending, just no surprises in the end... a Four stars overall!
