I'm not quite sure what to make of the start of this. I know you have to introduce characters and set the setting, etc., but I didn't really enjoy reading the shooting range scene (British detectives don't have gun training??) or the dinner with parents scene or all the banter at the police station. Also, it was strange how the point of view changed suddenly from one character to another. While it could be good to read a classic detective story (as opposed to a psychological thriller), I wasn't immediately drawn in by the writing in this book.
