OK, once again I feel like I read a different book than most others... I LOVED the intro - the excerpt caught my attention immediately and pulled me right in. I loved Maud and her chutzpah and was looking forward to learning what lay behind her fabulously bold revenge-shooting. Her snarky inner voice and contradictions were intriguing and inviting and I really thought I was going to like this one (despite my utter and complete lack of interest in poker - which I assumed would be more of a minor player).

WRONG.

I just couldn't get into this one. After that initial burst of high-octane energy, the book never seemed to find its way (or, perhaps more appropriately, I never found my way into it). The back-and-forth between characters and topics kept losing my attention (or, again, perhaps I just couldn't manage to hold on). I expected a more dramatic series of events after the opening - but as far as I read, I never found them. Regardless of the reason, this one lost me early on and couldn't garner my interest enough to keep me reading all the way through... It may have picked up/evened out, but I just couldn't get there.
