I downloaded a bunch of the pdf excerpts and dumped them on my nook to get to when I can, so by the time I got to this one, I had no idea that it was book 3 in a series. In spite of that, there's ample information to where you won't feel lost starting with this one, as opposed to starting with the first book in the series. Obviously, it would have been better to read the first two first, but it's not a detriment. Here's the notes that I took while I was reading this one:
-Interesting premise
-Strong hook
-Lots of formatting issues with the PDF - lots of additional spaces i.e. "cata log," "prob lem" etc. Fingers crossed this is just an issue because of the excerpt and that it didn't make it to print that way.
- This reminds me of The Coldfire Trilogy - nothing's ever written this way anymore.
-I love the worldbuilding
-I need all the books in this series. NEED.

Overall, this wasn't what I expected, but in the absolute best way possible.
