Overall I really enjoyed reading this book. I have been following Susan Dennard's work since she began this series and I have liked where she has taken the characters. I appreciated how much more we were able to learn bout Aeduan in this story and how he is able to grow due to Iseult. I also liked where they decided to go with Merik's storyline and am curious about how he will get himself and Kullen out of the ice.

While I did enjoy this story, I do however feel as though it suffered from middle book syndrome. For example, with Safi's character I feel as though for the majority of the book her character was rather stagnant and that her plot line did not move. Her character remained rather flat until the last 100 pages of the story or so. The same can also be said for Vivia and a few other characters.

Outside of this though, I love Susan Dennard's story writing and world-building. Plus there are a thousand questions that I can't wait to know. For example, I would love to know more about Owl and her background and what she can really do. I can't wait to see where she takes the characters and the story from here!
