** spoiler alert ** I really enjoyed reading about a female blacksmith. Not only is Ziva a magical blacksmith, but she suffers from anxiety. I was grateful to see a character who questioned what she said and did because I relate to her struggles, if on a much less severe scale. This was a great example of representation, however, and I love finally seeing characters in literature with mental health issues that are able to conquer and overcome their own villains, both inside their head and the magical villains of their worlds.

I was practically screaming at Ziva to let Kellyn in the whole time and was really frustrated when she closed him off at the very end for what I felt was a petty reason. I really need the next book to see what happens with the warlord and Ziva’s sister. I'm very excited to keep reading this book, though I was slightly disappointed that it didn't hold up to the same perfection as the rest of Levenseller's works. I feel like this was slightly lacking.
