Fun but a bit melodramatic

It's been awhile since I read Blade of Secrets, so please bear with me. I'll consult my Goodreads review for this one to ensure I'm being accurate.

This book was fun. It's lovely to see blacksmithing as a part of a fantasy world front and center, and it's always nice to see magical weaponry as part of a story line- it's a holdover from fantasies of bygone eras and I love that about this story.

Now for the cons - I didn't love these characters. The interactions between them flip a one eighty after a bit without the fleshing out of the reasons behind that. I'm not a reader that likes an insta-love enemies to lovers mashup anyway, so that is likely the main reason why I was rubbed the wrong way a couple times. I'm also at my heart a realist, and I don't prefer characters that rely heavily on melodrama to get in and out of trouble. It's just hard to believe in, and I need to be invested wholly in a fantasy.
