The over-arching premise is certainly intriguing -- a female smithy who can weld magic into the weapons she makes. In addition, she is extremely sensitive, preferring to work alone than to interact with people. Fortunately, she has her sister, Temra, to protect her from the rest of the world, acting as the frontline at her smithy stall and in all other personal contacts.
The first person point of view is often not my favorite, but in this instance, Ziva's self-doubting, reticent personality made me immediately concerned for her, no matter that she has a fantastic magical talent. That insured I would want to read more chapters.
