I’ve got a good feeling about this one.
This first impression left me feeling pretty good about the mental health rep. It’s unique to find a YA fantasy with a main character who has social anxiety and her struggles are woven into the story in a convincing but not overly sensationalized way. I find it relatable so far.
Moreover, I like that Ziva (the main character) is well established and believable in her passion for her craft as a bladesmith. The opening pages are inviting and the writing style has a warmth to it, I could see this being a fast and easy read. The cover is cliched and wouldn’t be very eye-catching among a group of YA fantasy novels, but it’s not bad and has a level of detail that I like overall. Curious about this book and will check it out in the future.
