Wow, where to begin? Truly cannot say enough nice things about this one! I was initially drawn to this book by the absolutely stunning cover (those colors, hello!) but the premise of Black Buck absolutely grabbed me. The gentrification of Brooklyn is such a sensitive and poignant topic and I admired how Askaripour handles it with unique humor and care. I think this is such an important book because of how it handles the intersection between race and class, and as a native New Yorker, it tugged at my heartstrings. The themes of stagnation and potential strongly spoke to me as a student and are some of my favorite emotional storylines to read. I enjoyed this 21st century take on the American Dream, a very controversial concept that begs for interpretation by diverse voices. The excerpt both warmed my heart and hooked me in and I will definitely be reading this in the future!
