BLACK BUCK is about twenty-two-year-old, Darren, who lives with his mother and works at Starbucks. One day, he is recruited to work as a salesman at a tech startup company but things aren't easy for him.

To begin with, my reading experience seemed quite dynamic and it was rather a fast read. I enjoyed the fluid and easy writing and I was initially excited after reading the author's note. I think the book portrays realistically the aggressive and even disrespectful behavior that usually occur in corporate environment, as well as several timely issues such as stereotypes, gentrification and racism in workplace. I loved the satirical tone and I think it worked well to deliver the message of the story.
Having said that, I felt the plot disjointed at times and ended up not caring enough for the main character. Overall, BLACK BUCK is a original and ambitious debut that might be a love or hate relationship for the readers.
