This book was not at all what I expected and it didn't work for me as well as it did for others. I didn't like how Darren, the main character had to change to fit into the business, he knew some of the things they said and did were wrong, but he joined in. I really enjoyed his character as a Starbucks employee and how he had a great relationship with the other baristas at that store. (As a former barista, I really enjoyed that part!).
As things spiraled out of control I didn't like the person Darren became. I know that its fiction, but the satire label that drew me in just didn't work for me. I didn't know when the author was trying to be funny or when he was trying to prove a point and that made the reading hard for me at times.
I almost needed cliff notes for this book to understand the humor, the poignance and the lessons I was supposed to learn. I am glad I read this book, and take the blame for it not working for me personally.
